Use our 1-on-1 meeting template to easily collect agenda items and discussion points beforehand. Not only will you save time, but it will be less awkward because you know what to talk about.
Before this tool, I did not have employees share notes/agenda items before the meeting. This was great because I knew what I was “walking into.” It gave insight on the tenor of the meeting, as well – I could tell their moods by the topics they sent through. I loved it!
1-1 meetings are deeply integrated into workplace chat and productivity tools, whether it's Slack or Teams.
We handle the work for you, so you can walk into meetings with topics for discussion, saving time.
With Friday, you can customize every aspect of the 1-1 meeting (questions, reminders, and much more)
Are you curious about how 1-1s work in Friday? We've answered your most pressing questions in the FAQ below.
We are so glad you asked! We've written a comprehensive guide on 1-1s for managers as well as for employees if you'd like to dive deeper. The gist is that employees and their team leader should set aside time on a regular basis to have a 1-1 discussion. This is a way to spot potential problems before they become a big deal.
1-1s were first discussed in High Output Management, by Andy Grove (CEO of Intel) in the early 1980s. We strongly recommend you buy this book as soon as you can - it's the best book on management that we've ever read.
For new employees, we recommend that you have 1-1 meetings every week. When the employee is up to speed, you may want to consider holding it every other week. Keep in mind, 1-1s (and the topics of discussion) are determined by the employee, not the manager.
Our focus is on helping lay the foundation before the meeting happens. You can use Friday to ask for agenda items _______ hours/days before the meeting happens. We believe this is the highest impact thing you can do to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the meeting.
Unlike other 1-1 tools on the market which have features related to action items, we have no intention of being a todo list app. There are plenty of great apps for managing todos (like Asana, Jira, etc) that you are probably already using.
There are a few benefits to this approach:
You can read more about how Friday can help you significantly reduce the number of 1-1 meetings while retaining effectiveness here.
If you want, this is possible. But we don't recommend it.
Keep in mind, this is the employee's meeting, not yours, so we recommend only asking the employee for agenda items. They own the meeting, not you!
Pretty much everything :)
The Friday workflow builder makes it easy to run virtually any communication workflow you can think of. The only requirement is that it must be a recurring event. You can browse sample templates to learn more.
Unlike other apps that show all the information collected to Human Resource departments, you determine who can see the results. For the 1-1, we think it should only be seen by the manager and the employee (just like the meeting itself). There's no need for anyone else to spy on the conversation.
It's free to get up and running on Friday. We are a business, so we can't give everything away for free, so premium features are $6/person per month and includes:
The 1-1 meeting template is only one of many communication habits you can run with Friday. Here's a few more you can setup:
Hold less awkward retrospectives by surfacing the key information asynchronously beforehand.
